Mr Austin McCormick
Consultant Opthalmologist
Mr McCormick provides a regional NHS oculoplastic, lacrimal and orbital service as part of a team at Aintree University Hospital Trust. He also provides a general ophthalmology service.
After graduating from the University of Sheffield Medical School, Mr McCormick specialised in ophthalmology, completing his junior surgical training in Sheffield and senior training in the Merseyside region. He then travelled to Auckland, New Zealand for a one year Oculoplastic and Lacrimal Surgery Fellowship. He completed his training in Manchester with a further one year fellowship in oculoplastic and orbital surgery.
He specialises in managing eyes that water excessively, performs tear duct bypass surgery (dacryocystorhinostomy) by both the external skin incision approach and also the latest endonasal, no incision technique. He also specialises in the management on thyroid eye disease, including orbital decompression for protruding eyes and eyelid surgery for lid retraction and orbital fat prolapse.
He manages eye socket problems for people with artificial eye prosthesis and also provides modern small incision cataract surgery by Phacoemulsification with intraocular lens implant.
