Cognitive Behaviour Therapy
Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (CBT) is essentially a type of discussion therapy that can help patients manage problems by changing the way they think and behave.
CBT can help manage problems such as anxiety, eating disorders, stress and depression amongst others. It cannot solve the problem but can help to enable the patient to deal with it in a more positive and pro-active way.
CBT deals with current issues and unlike phsycotherapy does not dwell on issues in the past, dealing with the here and now is often the best route forward.
Patients are often caught in negative cycles with regard to their thoughts and actions and this can cause a spiral downward, CBT works by breaking down the issues into smaller parts and dealing with them individually.
Alongside the talking therapy, group exercises and sessions are used to allow the patient to understand their issues better and therefore deal with them more effectively.
Please discuss all of your issues with your specialist on your first consultation and they will be able to advise on the correct route forward to deal with the problem effectively.
If you are paying for your own treatment all costs will be discussed and explained prior to any treatment taking place. This will be confirmed in writing along with any surgeon fees, anaesthetist fees and hospital charges prior to admission.
