Electrocardiogram (ECG)
An electrocardiagram is otherwise referred to in short as an ECG and records the beat of the heart and electrical activity.
Pads are attached to various areas on the chest and body and the heartbeat measured for rate of heartbeat, irregular heartbeat and the strength of the heartbeat.
With each heartbeat, an electrical signal spreads from the top of the heart to the bottom. As it travels, the signal causes the heart to contract and pump blood. The process repeats with each new heartbeat.
The consultants at The Sefton Suite will measure the readings and discuss the findings with each patient, following up with a referral to another specialist or a course of action as required.
