Insertion Mirena Coil
The coil, a form of contraceptive for a woman, and designed like a small, plastic T shaped device slowly releases progesterone which prevents pregnancy and also makes periods lighter.
Your consultant will insert a speculum into your vagina and cleanse the area in the vagina and cervix with an antiseptic solution.
Special instruments will then be used to measure the cervical canal, uterine cavity and uterine canal.
The arms forming the T shape on the coil will then be folded back into a small tube for insertion into the cervical canal and placement within the uterus. Coil strings are trimmed so they don't protrude too far into the vagina and the strings may be measured.
During the insertion you may feel dizzy or faint and experience low blood pressure, this is a reaction felt by a number of women.
A follow up appointment will be required to check the coil is working correctly.
We advise each you discuss any questions with your consultant prior to any procedure.
If you are paying for your own treatment all costs will be discussed and explained prior to any treatment taking place. This will be confirmed in writing along with any surgeon fees, anaesthetist fees and hospital charges prior to admission.
