Oculoplastic Eye Cyst
Surgery around the eye is called oculoplastic surgery and the consultants at The Sefton Suite are highly experienced in performing minor eye surgery procedures.
Eye cysts are usually small and painless lumps or swellings either above or below the eye itself and are caused by blockages to the glands that supply fluid to lubricate the eyelid.
The procedure to remove the cyst is generally performed under local anaesthetic and will take approximately twenty minutes. During the operation the eyelid is carefully turned inside out and the cyst carefully scraped away, the wound is then washed with saline solution.
The procedure is a day case and requires no overnight stay in the hospital. It will be possible to return to work very soon after the operation.
This procedure will normally be covered by the medical insurance policy but patients are advised to check with the provider prior to any treatment.
If you are paying for your own treatment all costs will be discussed and explained prior to any treatment taking place. This will be confirmed in writing along with any surgeon fees, anaesthetist fees and hospital charges prior to admission.
